SDG:Zero FAQs
Everything you need to know
Answers to common questions about the Global Goals, the SDG:Zero Directory, and the Vault. The Vault is currently a work in progress, we are building it in phases and rolling out features as they are ready.
Global Goals, SDGs
What the SDGs mean for SMEs, and how to get started.
What are the SDGs, and why do they matter to small businesses?
The Sustainable Development Goals are 17 global goals that cover social, economic, and environmental priorities.
For SMEs, they are a practical framework to improve trust, attract better customers, build stronger teams, and show real local impact.
Do I need to work on all 17 goals?
No. Most SMEs start with 1 to 3 goals that match their services, values, and community.
Consistency beats complexity, it is better to do a few things well and show proof.
How do I choose the right SDGs for my business?
Start with your day to day work, how you hire, buy, deliver, and support customers.
Choose goals that you can evidence, for example local jobs, ethical sourcing, reduced waste, safer operations, or community support.
Is SDG:Zero about greenwashing?
No. SDG:Zero is built around practical action and credibility.
We encourage clear statements, specific outcomes, and honest progress, not perfect claims.
SDG:Zero Directory
Listings, visibility, local SEO, and how the directory works.
What is the SDG:Zero Directory?
The Directory is a purpose-led business directory where SMEs can showcase their services, locations, and SDG commitments.
It helps customers find trustworthy businesses, and helps businesses build visibility around local intent searches.
What should I include in my listing to rank locally?
Include your primary service, your service area, and specific phrases customers use.
Add photos, clear contact details, and short updates that show proof of impact, examples include hiring, community support, or ethical choices.
Can I add multiple locations or service areas?
Yes, if your business genuinely serves them.
Keep locations accurate, and make sure your content reflects each area in a natural way, avoid listing areas you do not cover.
How do SDGs show on my listing?
You can select the SDGs you align with and describe what you are doing for each one.
The best listings include a short, specific explanation plus a measurable outcome where possible.
How often should I update my listing?
Monthly is a strong baseline.
Even a short update with a photo and a clear outcome can build trust, improve engagement, and support local visibility.

Can I edit my listing later?
Yes. You can improve your description, add photos, update services, and refine your SDG statements.
We recommend small improvements over time, it keeps your profile accurate and more compelling.
What makes an SDG statement credible?
Specific actions plus evidence.
For example, “We pay the Living Wage and hired two apprentices locally” is stronger than “We support our community”.
Use numbers, dates, locations, photos, partnerships, and outcomes where possible.
How do I get help if something is not working?
Start by checking your listing details, email, phone, website link, category, and location.
If you still need support, use the contact page or send a message with your listing URL and the issue you are seeing.
